DO take the sizes of your ingredients into account. The way that broiling is done is with a high heat source, similar to grilling. What this means is that you must place your ingredients relative to the source in question. For instance, if you prefer thicker cuts of chicken or steak, make sure that they are positioned a good distance away from the heat source. DON’T think you’re limited to meat. Even though you may use meat the most when broiling, this isn’t to say you’ll be limited to said product. DO be mindful when basting. Many people tend to broil their food with some kind of liquid, either for the purposes of tenderizing or what have you. In any event, if you’re going to baste the food you broil, make sure that the liquid used is warm. This way, you will not throw off the temperatures meant for cooking, resulting in less appetizing dishes. Even though basting can yield positive results, this will only occur if you’re mindful about what you add.

DON’T leave your oven door open. During the broiling process, it’s important to keep the door to your oven close. While a counterargument can be made that cool air is required to keep the oven in question from shutting down, many newer models are built to automatically adjust.
